Why field tallies need a shared counting protocol
Paper tallies require later transcription and can use inconsistent definitions across stations. A digital counter does not solve that by itself. The team still needs written categories, observation windows, station ownership, and a method for reviewing differences.

When one person's tally stops being enough
A single tally works until a second person needs the number. Then totals get read aloud, copied onto paper, and added up again at the end, and every handoff is a chance to lose a few. A shared session gives everyone the same live count of observed events, completed interactions, category tallies, from their own phone, while it is happening.

Frequently asked questions
Does the shared field tally work offline?
Not fully. Multi-device synchronization requires an internet connection. During a short drop, taps are held on the device and sent when the connection returns, and other devices see them only after that. Use an approved offline collection method where connectivity is unreliable.
Can I export recorded counts?
Paid organization plans provide CSV and JSON exports. Validate the exported fields before importing them into an analysis workflow.
Does SnapCount measure inter-rater reliability?
No. It records manual tally events. Researchers must design and perform their own agreement and reliability analysis.
