Offline and live sync

What happens to a tap when the signal drops, and what the connection notices mean.

Taps during a drop

Live sync needs an internet connection. If it drops while a counting page is open, keep counting. Taps are held on this device and sent when the connection returns. Keep this page open.

  • Held taps are sent in order, and each lands once.
  • They survive a reload or a closed tab, and are sent the next time that page is open online in the same browser.
  • Other phones see them only once they are sent.
SnapCount does not open without a connection. Open the counting page before you lose signal, and keep it open.

Limits on held taps

  • Taps older than 24 hours are dropped.
  • The newest 500 taps are kept.
  • A tap the server refuses outright is dropped, for example on a guest session that has ended.
  • If the browser blocks site storage, taps cannot be held at all.
